President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Pa Ayorinde Fasanmi as he clocks 94

 

– The president described the leader of the Afenifere as a true disciple of Awolowo

 

– Buhari said Fasanmi demonstrated his love for the people by joining politics at an early age

 

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated national leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Ayorinde Fasanmi, and commended him for consistently projecting the noble and progressive ideas of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

 

President Buhari in a congratulatory message issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Thursday, September 25 joined family, friends, professional and political associates of the pharmacist, who turns 94 on Sept. 27, 2019.

 

According to the president, Pa Fasanmi joins politics to serve the nation at a young age, and has demonstrated his love for the country by working for the welfare of the poor and underprivileged, and holding leaders to account on their promise of good governance.

 

The president believed that Pa Fasanmi’s focus on people, as a legislator, who served in the House of Representatives and Senate, had shaped his life philosophy and politics.

 

President Buhari extolled Pa Fasanmi’s courage in standing for democratic governance and fighting for democratic ideals and values.

 

He prayed that the almighty God would grant him longer life, good health and strength to keep serving the nation.

 

Meanwhile, Pa Fasanmi revealed how he was told that he would die if he failed to take a deserved rest.

 

The elder statesman disclosed this in Oshogbo, the capital of Osun state.

Fasanmi who recounted the story behind the doctor’s pronouncement said the situation happened when he was running to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.

 

“Talking about my health, like every old people, I have my fair share of health challenges but it is a great privilege made possible by only the grace of God to be alive today at 94.”
