Police arrest army corporal, 4 others for transporting drug


The police command in Jigawa sate has arrested a Nigerian Army coporal with the name Muzambilu Abdullahi for being in possession of Indian hemp


– Four others were also arrested with him after the vehicle conveying the drugs was involved in an accident in the state


– The corporal, however said he did not know what the vehicle was carrying as he was only an escort to it


The police command in Jigawa state have made an arrest involving a Nigerian Army corporal and four others for the possession of 169 packs of harmful substances which was suspected to be Indian hemp.


Daily Trust reports that the development was made known by the state commissioner of police, Bala Zama Sanchi, during the parade of the suspect, Corporal Muzambilu Abdullahi, at the police headquarters.


Sanchi said the arrest was made possible by officers of operation puff adder, saying that they caught him when the suspect’s vehicle got stuck in an accident at the Nigeria-Niger border town in the state.

The commissioner said that on getting to the scene of the accident, they met the corporal in an army uniform and saw the substances when they did a thorough search on the vehicle.


The army official, however, said he was ignorant of what the vehicle belonging to one Alhaji Abubakar was carrying and was only escorting it.


Abdullahi said the owner of the vehicle ran away immediately the accident happened. Others arrested suspects at the scene are Nurah Mohammed and Abubakar Ahmed.


The police boss said that on further surveillance of the area, another person by the name Abdusallam Sabo was arrested.
