Nigeria at 59: Under Buhari, our country now earns international respect – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, September 30, commended President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria marks its 59th independence anniversary

While felicitating with citizens on the country’s 59th independence anniversary, the APC, in a statement by Lanre Issa-Onilu, its spokesperson, noted that Nigeria now earns international respect following the way it had been handled by Buhari.

“In spite of the inherited and our current challenges, President Muhammadu Buhari administration has made commendable strides on so many fronts,” the APC said listing the achievements to include:

1. The fight against graft

2. Diversifying and revamping the economy

3. Curbing insurgency and emerging crimes

4. Promoting positive values in our national life

5. Strengthening our democratic institutions and processes

6. Achieving a respectable international standing.

The party used the opportunity to remember and salute the country’s founding fathers who fought for the independence, as well as the members of our Armed Forces, many of whom have paid the supreme sacrifice to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and keep the country united.

“As a nation, we are better together than we are apart. Hence, we must be wary of those who hide under religion, politics, tribe and sundry groupings to turn us against one another.

“Despite our perceived differences, our strength and progress depend on our ability to harness our rich diversity,” the party said while pleading with Nigerians to engage only in acts that would heal their fault lines by promoting ethnic and religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

It noted that President Buhari’s administration is committed to building on and affirming the country’s ‘Giant of Africa’ status.

“Happy 59th Independence Day to all Nigerians”.
